Preaching School

Welcome to preaching school. I humbly pray that you will read the content of this page with an open mind and an open heart. In my ministry of preaching i have been privileged to travel the world addressing small groups to large gatherings of up to 10,000 in attendance. The joy of preaching the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ has no higher calling and carries great responsibility.

I have observed hundreds of ministers and sat under some of the greatest expository preachers of the bible where countless numbers of people became true followers of the Lord Jesus in response to their passionate spirit- filled preaching.

Since my return to the catholic church I have been saddened that the preaching of the word among priests, deacons and lay people is oftentimes lacking in this power. It is with this in mind that I launched ‘Preaching School’ as a resource and encouragement to ignite and reignite all attendees with the fervency and skills necessary to preach and teach with great power and boldness.

Having been involved in financial services and the business world i had to embark upon continual professional development (CPD). This was not optional but essential in my professional capacity to ensure that I was providing clients with clear and concise information. Sadly it seems that the business world are more committed to training and development than the church of Jesus Christ. What an indictment on all of us concerned! This has to change!

I look forward with great joy and enthusiasm to welcoming you in the future and to rejoicing with you in this bold stepto develop your ministry.

Terry Quinn | International Bible teacher.

FURTHER HISTORICAL INSIGHTS……

  • “There can be no true evangelisation without the explicit proclamation of Jesus.”            (Pope Francis)
  • We learn from the scriptures that the Church was birthed under powerful and passionate preaching when at Pentecost over 3000 souls were saved.
  • The Acts of the Apostles is actually the ‘PREACHING’ of the apostles with over 25% of the content devoted to sermons. In 28 chapters of the Acts there are 19 major life changing messages that were preached with passion and power.
  • History records that the Church has been at its weakest when her pulpits have lacked this power and passion. The first century Church was a preaching church and the Church fathers were preaching missionaries.
  • However the art of preaching not only requires ‘The Call ‘ but also devotion, diligent study and regular practice. The church faces great challenges in an ever- increasing secular world totally unimpressed by today’s pulpit preaching.
  • Studies and research have recorded that we in the Catholic Church are facing a preaching crisis and that we are in “Maintenance” mode instead of “Missionary” mode.
  • I admit there are many contributing factors to this decline, including poor catechesis, clergy abuse and social networking aimed at spreading antagonism towards the church.   However I believe that lifeless, boring, lack-lustre and mechanical homilies have replaced the ‘Spirit-filled’ preaching of Pentecost.

We have lost the zeal of the apostles and early Fathers, with many sermons becoming lifeless lectures. Cold, clinical, sterile, and stagnant homilies are an affront to the gospel of Jesus Christ. True preaching is THEOLOGY ON FIREdelivered by a PREACHER ON FIRE.

There must be a fire in the pulpit which will spread to the people in the pews and to a lost and dying world which is without hope with many are heading towards a lost eternity.

“To speak from the heart means that our heart must not just be on fire but enlightened by the word of God.”        ( Pope Francis )

It is with this in mind that I believe that God wants this preaching school to be launched in order to train clergy and laity in the ‘Art of Preaching ‘and equip them with he necessary skills.

“A PREACHER WHO DOES NOT PREPARE IS NOT SPIRITUAL – HE IS DISHONEST AND IRRESPONSIBLE.”      ( Pope Francis )

“THE FAITHFUL EXPECT MUCH FROM PREACHING AND WILL GREATLY BENEFIT FROM IT, PROVIDED IT IS SIMPLE, DIRECT, CLEAR AND WELL ADAPTED “ ( Pope Paul VI )

I trust you will join me in the future in our preaching school, in person or online.   Please have a look at the content and drop me an email if you would prefer one-to-one tuition.

FACE THE FEAR …..

I believe that we have a major ‘Fear’ problem among the clergy in the church from the top down. Please understand that I make no judgment whatsoever in this statement, but want to reassure and encourage all ministers of the gospel that I aim to support you in this season . I am also aware of the many ‘anointed’ preachers among us who have dedicated their time and energy to fulfilling their call with great boldness.

NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE UNTIL THE UNSAID IS SAID.

LET’S STOP PRETENDING IT DOESN’T EXIST.

Many of our clergy have been told what NOT to preach.

They have adopted a greater sensitivity to people than to the Holy Spirit which has resulted in the following…

Fear of PEOPLE

Fear to OFFEND

Fear to CHALLENGE

Fear to CONFRONT

Fear of REJECTION

Fear of ADDRESSING MORAL TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH

Fear of PREACHING ABOUT SIN AND THE EXISTENCE OF HELL

Fear of PEOPLE LEAVING THE CHURCH

Fear of PEOPLE COMPLAINING

By enrolling in Preaching School you will be joining fellow speakers who will be with you on this journey together, providing empathy and support at our seminars and on our blogs.
